There should have been great rejoicing amongst the believers in Judea when they heard about the Gentiles also receiving the truth of the gospel. They were not ready to accept the Gentiles into their fold, but God had made a way for all people to receive redemption.
Let's Reflect
1. Peter reported back to the church in Jerusalem what had happened. What was the first accusation they made against Peter?
2. Peter also explained the vision that the Lord had given him. This vision helped him understand what God was doing. How many times did God tell Peter that it was ok to eat the animals that were once unclean?
3. Peter explained how Jesus had told them that John would baptize with water, but the followers of Jesus would also be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Peter had seen with his own eyes the Gentile believers receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. What conclusion did Peter draw for the people to help them understand the extent of the New Covenant?
4. The early church spread the gospel mostly to the Jews who had been spread all over due to persecution. But they also began reaching out to the Gentiles. One city where a great number of people came to know the Lord was Antioch. Barnabas, the man mentioned earlier that sold his land to help with the expenses of the church, went to Antioch to see what was happening. Realizing that God was doing something great in Antioch, Barnabas went to Tarsus to ask a certain man to come and help them. What was that man’s name?
5. Their ministry continued in Antioch for a whole year. It was here that believers were first called by what name?
6. The chapter ends with the church in Antioch hearing the prophecy of Agabus who foretold about a great famine. And so the church at Antioch made it their mission to help by sending relief to whom?
7. As you think about the early church spreading the gospel everywhere, who is on your radar today that you might look for an opportunity to share the gospel with them?
