Acts Chapter 3

Luke writes about the power of the Holy Spirit being exemplified in the lives of Peter and John through a miracle and through boldness to proclaim Christ. These men did not waste any time wondering when they would be used of God, they went actively seeking to serve Him. When they arrived at the temple to pray, there they saw a lame man who was asking for alms, but they gave him something far greater. They offered him the healing power of Jesus of Nazareth.

Let's Reflect

1. How was it that this lame man was at the gate of the temple grounds? How did he get there?

2. Peter had been trained by Jesus in healing when He was present on earth. This was not the first time. Jesus was no longer on the earth so by what authority did Peter say that the man would be healed?

3. How long had this man been lame? And how did his body react to the command of healing?

4. Peter took advantage of the opportunity to speak up for Christ as a crowd began to gather around the newly healed lame man. He immediately took the healing credit off himself and John, and gave it to Jesus. In the first part of verse 13 how did Peter describe Jesus?

5. In the second half of that same verse Peter reminded them of what they had done to Jesus just 50 days prior. How did Peter declare that?

6. Peter called Jesus the “Author of Life” and then talked about how Jesus was raised from the dead and they were eyewitnesses. Peter explained that it was by faith that this man was healed. What did Peter say was the basis of faith?

7. Notice that Peter boldly set the blame for the crucifixion on the shoulders of the people. He even mentioned that Pilate had been willing to set Jesus free. Peter used this opportunity to tell them that even their worst sin could be forgiven. In order to be partakers of the future glory they needed to do what?

8. Peter reminded them of all the Old Testament prophecies that they had been waiting to see fulfilled. He told them they had been ignorant when Jesus was with them; and he did not want them to be ignorant a second time and reject the gospel of Jesus. The gospel had come to them first. What words tell us that the gospel message would be extended to all?
