Exodus Chapter 38

The place where we worship our God should be a special building crafted with beautiful materials to reflect the awesomeness of our God.  This tent called a tabernacle of the Old Testament was very beautiful because of the materials that were chosen.  It was carefully designed and constructed according to the blueprints God gave them.  God wants us to give of our best to Him when we worship Him.  The tendency many humans have is to grow prideful of the building that was created, rather than to recognize it is a place or a means to gather for worship of our God.

Let's Reflect

1. What other materials besides gold do we read about being utilized for the tabernacle?

2. Even the altar that would be a place to sacrifice animals, was created beautifully.  What main material covered the altar that would have made it shiny?

3. The basin that was created to hold water so that the priests could wash their feet and hands was covered with what unique reflective item?  Note that it was women who gave their item to this purpose.

4. Just as God instructed them to create a court around the tabernacle they did so according to the dimensions He gave them.  Even the courtyard poles were constructed with some reflective materials.  What were they?

5. We know the color purple was associated with royalty.  It was an expensive color to make.  What color was the gate covering of the tabernacle?

6. Here we have an accurate recording of the material list of everything that was used to create the tabernacle.  How many of us have lost the receipts for the first remodeling project we started for our homes?  The material list for the tabernacle was important.  It had great significance.  What was the process that all of this was recorded?  See verse 21-23.

7. The rest of the chapter gives us the counts of the materials.  The magnitude of the materials collected from the people is amazing.  God had caused this provision for them when they left the wealthy Egyptians who happily gave up their wealth to the Israelites to have them leave their country.  So, as you look at these numbers and think about these provisions, what do we learn about our God?
