As you read this 43rd chapter of Genesis I hope that you get a sense of what a loving God we serve. God had been there and seen the way Joseph was treated by his own family when he was just a teenage boy. And God was with Joseph in this season of his life when he was reunited with his family including Benjamin his full brother. And just as the dreams that God had sent him when he was a young boy, his brothers bowed down to him because of the high authority that he had been given in Egypt. Only God can write a story like that.
Let's Reflect
1. What caused a need for Joseph’s brothers to return to Egypt?
2. The brothers reminded their father that they had been told they must return with their younger brother Benjamin. What did Israel (Jacob) say that he thought his sons did that caused this conditional promise of having to take his youngest son with them?
3. What did Judah say he would do if anything happened to Benjamin?
4. Were you surprised to find that there was some food in the land that Israel instructed them to take as gifts for Joseph? What things were they to take?
5. What did Israel say in verse 14 that showed he was ready to accept whatever happened and he gave in to the demands of this governor of Egypt?
6. Joseph, by way of an interpreter, had told the brothers that they were to come to his home. They were being invited to dinner but what did they think would happen?
7. What did Joseph do when he saw his brother Benjamin for the first time?
8. The Egyptians sat at separate tables from the Hebrew brothers. Why didn’t they all sit together?
9. The brothers realized something surprising about how they had been seated at their table. What was it?
10. They enjoyed a great meal that day I’m sure, but Benjamin was treated differently. How was Benjamin treated?
