I Timothy Chapter 2

Paul begins this chapter with a plea for all believers to offer prayer and thanksgivings for all people. He especially encourages us to pray for our leadership and authorities that we might live peacefully in our land. This prayer is so urgently needed today, all across our world we need to pray for peace.

Let's Reflect

1. Remembering that Paul wrote this letter to Timothy to aide in his teaching of the believers of Ephesus, we will see him include teachings for the church and for the Christian home. This city was a very wealthy port city and was probably influenced by many different cultures as they came to the port. What often happens when believers are confronted daily by the influence of ungodly people?

2. Timothy was asked to stay behind and shepherd these people who had many ungodly influences pouring down on them. According to verses 5 and 6 what is the one main doctrinal truth they needed to have rooted in their spirit to keep them from going astray?

3. What is the main purpose in praying for peace in our world?

4. What is God’s greatest desire for all of mankind?

5. God’s desire for us is so intent that He purposed us the believers to be used by Him to share the truth with the unbelievers. What is the simple truth that Paul shared with the Gentiles and that we can share with unbelievers? See verse 6.

6. In order to facilitate the gospel being spread, God wants us to conduct our lives in a respectable and righteous manner so that we are above reproach. This will require the help of the Holy Spirit and so what is the first thing we are instructed to do?

7. Secondly, we are instructed to avoid quarrelling with other believers and thirdly he speaks of how women should present themselves. We can argue that there are different times and different cultures than in the Bible times, but there is still an underlying truth to how Paul directs the women to present themselves and that is what?

8. Paul also addresses God’s order of things, in that women are to be submissive to men and not try to usurp authority or teaching over men. While a man’s greatest honor is his leadership and authority, what is a woman’s greatest honor?
