I Chronicles Chapter 14

Please read:  I Chronicles 14

The healing of the promised land had begun.  David was the king and he was blessed by God.  Under the leadership of King David the people would begin to see the blessings of God being poured out.  David himself knew that God had personally blessed him because the king of Tyre sent gifts to David.  He sent gifts of cedar trees and skilled laborers so that a house could be built for him.

When the Philistines tried to attack once again, David knew exactly what to do.  He turned to God for wisdom.  A lesson we should all learn from David, in that whatever circumstances we find ourselves, we should first seek the wisdom of God rather than try to figure things out for ourselves.

Let's Reflect

1.  When the king of Tyre sent gifts to David, what did David say about these special blessings?

2.  David wasn’t a perfect nor sinless man.  The Bible tells us he took more wives.  In this list of children born to David was Solomon the first-born child?

3.  The chronicler then shares with us the relationship that David had with God.  What does verse 10 teach us that David did before taking action against the Philistines who had come to take his life?

4.  To whom did David give the credit for the victory over the Philistines?

5.  The Philistines retreated so quickly that they left behind their gods or idols.  What did David command that the people do with these leftovers?

6.  On another occasion when the Philistines were about to attack again, what did David do first rather than assume the victory would be his?

7.  God gave David a very unique sign as to when he should take action.  What was the sign?

I do not believe that God’s voice to David was audible.  The answers God gave to David were in his heart but so clear it would have been as if it were audible.  God still speaks to people in the same way today if they are seeking His will with all their heart.  And sometimes God sends us physical signs like the rustling of leaves in the trees to know when it is time to act upon His wisdom.  We have a God who hears and answers our prayers, unlike the gods of the Philistines who were of so little value that they were left behind in the face of troubles.
