I Chronicles Chapter 16

Please read:  I Chronicles 16

While David’s own wife scolded him for giving praise to the LORD, he did not let that stop him.  David had known since he was a little boy that a relationship with God was something worth celebrating.  And now that the Ark of the Covenant was brought to its rightful place there was great reason to celebrate.

David gave God first place in his life wanting to do what pleased Him.  The first thing they did once the Ark was placed in the prepared tent, was to offer sacrifices to God.  These sacrifices pointed to the New Covenant when the blood of Jesus Christ would be shed to cover all our sins.  And the second thing they did on this momentous occasion was to sing songs of praise and to eat a celebratory feast.

Music had always been an important means of worship for David.  It is not surprising that he made sure that there were plenty of people who would offer songs of praise to God.  In this chapter we can read a specific Psalm that was written for this occasion.  It is believed to have been written by David himself.  The words of this Psalm teach us a lot of theology and a lot about the relationship that God desires to have with His people.

Let's Reflect

1.  Immediately after offering sacrifices to God, what does the Bible say that David did?

2.  We often think of the Levites as those who took care of the animal sacrifices but according to verse 4 David also appointed some for what important task?

3.  According to verse 7 what was the meaning of the Psalm that would be sung by Asaph and his brothers?

4.  One of the important things people should do when they gather to worship the Lord God is offer songs of praise to Him.  And according to verse 8 they should also do what?

5.  I love verse 13.  What two things should people seek from God?

6.  The psalm speaks of the covenant that God made.  What Old Testament saints are named that God made His covenant with?

7.  Verses 23-27 speak of the glory of the LORD.  What are we as His people to do in the knowledge of His glory?

8.  According to verses 28-36 who is in charge of all the nations?

9.  The Levites were appointed by David to initiate daily worship of God and to guard the entrance of the tent.  Verse 39-40 tell us that the priest named Zadok and his brothers were put in charge of the worship at Gibeon.  What was left at Gibeon?

10.  The last verse tells us that after the celebration the people went home to their houses.  Imagine how happy and joyful they must have been.  What does the Bible say that David did?
