I Chronicles Chapter 8

Please read:  I Chronicles 8

Titles in our modern Bibles help us distinguish the subject matter of chapters and sections.  This chapter in your Bible might be titled the Genealogy of Saul or possibly the Descendants of Benjamin.  Either way we learn that the genealogy given in this chapter is the record of King Saul who was from the tribe of Benjamin.  But the emphasis of the chapter is the whole tribe of Benjamin and its growth in numbers.  This tribe was only outnumbered by the tribe of Judah.

Let's Reflect

1.  Who was King Saul’s father?

2.  How many sons did Saul have?

3.  In the list of Saul’s sons do you see the name of David who was the man crowned king after Saul?

4.  In the genealogy list we would expect to find the name Mephibosheth.  Mephibosheth was the sole survivor of Jonathan, the one whom David showed favor to and invited him to eat at the king’s table.  His name is there it is just that his name was changed.  What name is listed as Jonathan’s son and the father of Micah?

It is interesting to think that had King Saul not fallen into sin how things might have been different if the kingly line had followed the path of his family tree.
