I Corinthians Chapter 16

Paul ended this first letter to the Corinthian church with an admonition to financially help the Christians in Jerusalem who were needy. We don’t know exactly why they were needy, but most likely it was because of a famine at this approximate time in history. Paul teaches the church to put aside extra monies each week for a collection that would be delivered by him when he came to visit. This church was not the only church that was asked to participate in this humanitarian effort. It is important that a church be involved in giving not just to their own ministry but also the care of those in need.

Let's Reflect

1. What did Paul say about his visit when he would come to Corinth to pick up their collection for Jerusalem?

2. Verse 8 tells us that Paul was currently in Ephesus while writing this letter. What was going on where he was?

3. Paul also mentioned some fellow laborers that would come to visit the church probably before he arrived. What other men were mentioned?

4. How did Paul want the church to treat these men when they visited?

5. Paul ends this letter by letting us know that he wrote it himself (not using a scribe). He ends this letter with his love for the church. These people were very dear to him, they were family, even though there were various problems within the church, he loved them. He also wanted them to experience what from the Lord? I hope you have allowed yourself to get to know the people in your church where you worship. They are your family.
