Peter is most likely writing this letter from prison and facing execution, just as Jesus told him would happen. It is an important point to keep in mind as you read this letter because the sincerity and intensity of Peter’s words that he leaves behind - to us believers are so important and precious. His legacy is written in the pages of the Bible, inspired by the Holy Spirit to help us in our walk with the Lord.
II Peter 1:21For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Let's Reflect
1. According to verses 3 and 4, what did God give to us to help us in our walk with Him?
2. Because He gave us those things, we are now partakers in the divine nature, we have passed from death unto life. How does Peter word this? What did we escape?
3. Because of your faith in God there will be some characteristics that should be evident in your life. Those Godly characteristics are something we will need to keep working on while living on this earth. What happens if we do not work on increasing our Godly character?
4. Peter as a leader in the church wants to remind them of how they should be striving to move forward in their walk with the Lord. He says that he wants to remind them of the Godly character qualities that they should have. He says that God is calling him to keep reminding them of these truths as long as he is still alive. He says that he is going to keep reminding them, stirring it up, so that after he is gone what will happen?
5. What proof does Peter offer to those who read his words that they are truth?
6. These words of truth (in the Bible) given to Peter by the Holy Spirit, are words that we can bank on, they are words for us to adhere to in a dark sinful world in which we live. He says the words are something we need to pay attention to. Why?
