Please read: II Chronicles 14 –
The author of the book or the chronicler concentrated on telling the history of Judah for the most part with only a few references to the northern kingdom. The next king in line of the southern kingdom was the son of Abijah and his name was Asa. The most important testimony this man had was written in I Kings 15:11 And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as David his father had done. Now David was not his father, but his ancestor. Asa responded to the call of God to live righteously more like David did, than his own father.
You may recall that in chapter 12 the Egyptians had plundered the wealth of Judah. During the reign of King Asa the people were able to gain plunder and livestock from the Ethiopians because God heard their prayer and caused the armies of Ethiopia to fall at the hands of Judah. God was restoring and blessing Judah that which had been lost due to their ancestors past sinful ways and foolishness.
Let's Reflect
1. How are the first 10 years of King Asa’s reign described?
2. According to the verses in this chapter, we know that King Asa had a deep respect for the LORD God. Not only did he seek to do what was right in the eyes of the LORD, what did he instruct the people to do?
3. Asa made a concerted effort to remove all the idols and altars used to worship foreign gods. He did not remove the high places that were created for worship of the true God, but he did remove the high places of idol worship. God rewarded the land of Judah because of this. What was the reward?
4. Instead of having to fight wars the people were involved in building what, under the direction of the king?
5. When an invading country came to attack, King Asa had prepared his military. But nothing could have prepared them for the size of the enemy army of Ethiopia. How many Ethiopians came to attack Judah?
6. King Asa did not call for his men to retreat, instead he cried out to God for help. What happened as a result of his prayers?
7. According to verse 13 how many of the Ethiopians survived the battle?
8. The Bible says that after this great battle with the Ethiopians, so great was the fear of the surrounding cities, (fear of Judah and Judah’s God), that the people of Judah were able to do what?
