This first letter of Peter reminds us of the great salvation that we have been given through Jesus Christ our Lord. Peter writes about the great mercy and the unmeasurable grace of our God. He was a firsthand witness (an apostle) of the grace of Jesus having walked with Him during His time spent on this earth. And as you read through his letter you can’t help but think about the Peter before his encounter with Jesus and the man that he became. What a difference God makes in the life of someone willing to follow Him.
In the second verse Peter uses a word that I think we need to meditate on today – and that is obedience to Jesus Christ. What does it look like in the life of a believer to live in obedience to Him? Quite honestly, I think we need to meditate more and more on the things Jesus said while here on this earth to really get a grasp of what it means to be His disciple.
Let's Reflect
1. What did God the Father provide for us by offering up His Son Jesus?
2. What is kept in heaven and waiting for the believers?
3. We know from reading God’s Word that He understands that we go through trials in this life. What does Peter tell us is a result of us being tested by various trials?
4. Imagine for a moment that you are standing before Jesus having never been through any trials or hardships. Now imagine standing before Him having endured many trials and hardships, how do you think you will feel when you see Jesus for the first time?
5. According to verse 9 what is the outcome of our having had faith in Jesus while on this earth?
6. This beautiful salvation that we have been given was something that Old Testament prophets wrote about and they wondered when such a day would arrive. This gift of salvation was completely revealed to us when God sent the _________ __________ to us from heaven.
7. We who have been redeemed are called to live a different lifestyle. Beginning in verse 13 what are some things we need to exemplify in our Christian Walk?
8. Peter reminds us that we have been ransomed from the futile ways of our forefathers. We no longer need to practice religious rituals. We have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. How is the redemption of Jesus explained? See verses 19-22.
9. What is it that will never fade away?
