Job Chapter 38

It happened. God spoke to Job. This is what Job had been wanting from the beginning. And when God spoke, the Bible says it was out of a whirlwind. His voice was powerful, probably much like the sounds of thunder. Job had pleaded with God for a chance to defend himself and God now speaks to the challenge that Job presented.
As you read these words imagine how you would feel if you yourself heard the audible voice of God speaking these words to you. Imagine how Job felt. He had heard God speak before, but this was different. God was addressing him audibly and powerfully. And what God has to say to Job shows the power and authority of the Almighty God over all creation.
Let's Reflect
1. Right away we get the sense that Job had went to far in the way he had spoken to God. What is the first two questions God asks Job that indicates God is letting Job know that He is supreme?
2. When God created all the stars, what did all the celestial beings of heaven do?
3. In these first few questions what is God really asking Job?
4. Not only had mankind not yet explored the deepest depths of the oceans (and we still haven’t), but according to verse 18 Job nor any man had not explored what yet?
5. In verses 19-24 God declares that Job could not define where light nor darkness comes from. In verse 22 what else did God say Job could not define?
6. In verses 25-30, God speaks about those thunderstorms that Elihu had just tried to expound upon. I love the phrase in verse 29. What does God call the creation that comes from ice?
7. God explains further His control over the constellations in the sky, the thunder, lightning, and His power to bring rain to a land of drought and cause grass to grow. In the final two verses of this chapter what other thing does God exhibit his power over on our earth?
These statements of God in the form of questions presented to Job, paint a picture of the awesome creative power of our God and provokes us to think about why God does what He does in our world. Reading this certainly causes us to be in awe of the work of our God.
