In chapter 13 we learn that there was still land to be conquered by Israel and some of the people of that land were never taken out, even as the Lord had directed. But for the most part Israel would now possess all the land that God had said was their inheritance. And there was a promise that God would take care of the rest. He said that He would drive those people out. It was now time for the people to have rest in the promised land.
We find in this chapter a review of all the land that God had given to Israel on the east side of the Jordan. And in the following chapter there is a review of the land on the west side. This chapter and the next are a declaration of God’s promises kept to Abraham, Isaach, Jacob and his twelve sons.
Let's Reflect
1. What do we learn about Joshua in the first verse?
2. According to verse 2 what two main people groups remained yet in the promised land?
3. What promise did God make to Joshua regarding the remaining inhabitants?
4. How was Joshua to divide the land on the west side of the Jordan?
5. In verse 13 we learn that not all people groups were driven out of the territory to the east of the Jordan either. What groups of people remained on the east side?
6. What tribe of Israel did not receive any division of land because they were given the responsibility to serve in the tabernacle?
