Sometimes people get the idea that becoming a Christian is just a one-time big decision you make and that’s all there is to it. My friend, there is so much more to Christianity than just our conversion to Christ. Jesus wants to bless us with a joyful, fulfilling, purposeful, and peaceful life as we follow Him all of our days. Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ involves a daily decision to humbly deny self and to seek to please Him. Choosing to walk daily with Jesus is so rewarding. I encourage you to choose His joy, His peace, over the things of this world, any day!
And one day as Christ followers, we will get to spend eternity with Jesus, and all the other saints in glory. Oh, what a day that will be!
Let's Reflect
1. Jesus told the people a parable that was to teach them the importance of being persistent in seeking God’s answers in prayer. I find it funny that Jesus told the parable the way He did. Perhaps He was trying to evoke some laughter from His listeners. What was the just of the parable?
2. The next parable He told, which begins in verse 9, He told with the purpose of correcting the attitude problem that some of them had. What was their attitude?
3. The tax collector in the parable understood what about himself? And really this is true of every single human being.
4. Don’t you love the picture of verses 15-17? These verses tell us what about Jesus?
5. Jesus asked the rich young ruler why he called Him “good teacher,” since only God is good. This implies that Jesus was testing His faith to see if he could truly accept that Jesus is the Son of God. Those who truly understood that – wanted to follow Him no matter what the cost. Do you think this rich ruler believed Jesus was the Messiah based on his response to follow Jesus?
6. Who did respond to Jesus with a declaration that he was willing to leave everything behind to follow Jesus?
7. They had just had this beautiful conversation with Jesus about being His followers and then He told them He was going to be beaten and killed and that He would rise from the dead on the third day. What was the response of the disciples?
8. In the miraculous healing of the blind man, we know that this man believed Jesus was the Messiah. We know this because he called Jesus by what name?
