The death and resurrection of Jesus is the single most important truth of all of Christianity. Scripture gives us so many details about the resurrection of Jesus found in the gospels. These eyewitness accounts of our resurrected Savior are written accounts of people who walked and talked and even touched Jesus in His resurrected body.
Let's Reflect
1. Mark 16:3 tells us that the women discussed on the way to the tomb who would roll the stone away from the tomb. They probably knew that there were armed guards as discussed by Matthew in chapter 27. Possibly they thought they might convince the guards to roll the stone away for them so they could prepare the body of Jesus with the spices. When they arrived what did they find had already happened?
2. When they went into the tomb, they did not find the body of Jesus as they had expected to. Two men, angels in dazzling apparel spoke to the women. What did they say?
3. When the women reported this to the apostles, they were not taken seriously. But one of the apostles did get up and ran to the tomb to see for himself. Who did Luke say went to the tomb?
4. On that same day that He arose, Sunday, Jesus went for a walk. He walked and talked with two of His followers who did not recognize Him. The men were on their way to Emmaus from Jerusalem. How long of a walk was this journey according to verse 13?
5. My favorite verse in this chapter is verse 18. The men ask Jesus a funny question, what was it?
6. Notice that they were enthralled with His teaching and did not want it to end. At what point were their eyes opened and they recognized who Jesus was? And then what happened?
7. This realization was not something they could keep to themselves. They immediately went back to Jerusalem. They wanted to tell someone. Who did they tell?
8. As this was all being discussed, Jesus appeared to them. This time Jesus was recognized, but what did they think they were seeing?
9. What proof did Jesus offer them to prove He had resurrected from the dead?
10. Then Jesus reminded them that He had taught them previously how He was the fulfillment of scriptures. And what does the Bible say happened to them in verse 45?
11. Before Jesus left His disciples to ascend to heaven, He said that they should remain in Jerusalem until what event happened?
12. Jesus walked and talked with His followers leading them out to Bethany and He blessed them and then He was carried up into heaven. How did the followers of Jesus react?
