Nehemiah Chapter 3

This chapter records all the names of the men who understood the importance of rebuilding the wall around the city of Jerusalem and poured themselves into the work. The work started at the points where the gates were to be rebuilt and then they worked outward from there. The gated areas were the most vulnerable points of the wall and needed to be framed up first and new gates made and hung to create stability for the city.
Reading through the list of the names of the men who worked on this very big project are the names of everyday people of the country. They were not professional construction workers but just everyday people.

1. In the first verse, what was the occupation of the first worker listed?
2. What are some other occupations of the builders that are recorded in this chapter?
3. Throughout the listed names there is only cooperation as all these pitched in to accomplish the task. There is one exception listed, but no reason is given as to their objection to helping rebuild the wall. Who were the exceptions? See verse 5.
4. What name do you find in verse 16 that may seem like the same man as the man who started this project, but if we look back to chapter 1 verse 1, we find they had different fathers. What name is recorded in verse 16?
5. Why do you think it was important to God that the names of these volunteers who helped rebuild the gates and the walls be included in scripture?
