Philippians Chapter 2

Paul often talks about how important it is to encourage each other and to rejoice with each other. This is why having the community of church is so important. We need to spend time with each other so that we can encourage each other. As the family of God, we need to encourage our brothers and sister in their walk with the Lord. And we also need to rejoice with them when we see God moving in spectacular ways in their lives and pray with them when they are going through a rough season.

Let's Reflect

1. What did Paul say would bring him great joy regarding the church at Philippi?

2. We could fix a lot of problems in our country today if everyone would follow Paul’s admonition to count others more significant than ______________________ .

3. As we consider the need for believers to have humility and to put the needs of others before self, the greatest example of humility is Jesus Christ. Jesus is literally God and His greatness is so great that we would not be able to comprehend Him because He is equal to the Father. So, when Jesus came to earth, He humbled Himself and took on the form of what?

4. Jesus went further than that, He humbled Himself and died for us on the cross. Because Jesus did that for us, what did God the Father do for Jesus?

5. In light of the title bestowed upon Jesus our King, our daily walk in this world as a believer needs to be lived in such a way that we aim to please The King. As we work out our own salvation (strive to be more like our King) the emotions that we should feel are what?

6. What are the believers called while living in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation? I can’t think of more fitting words to describe the generation we live today than a crooked and twisted generation. They are in desperate need of a Savior!

7. Paul recognized that his purpose in life was to sacrifice himself (be poured out as a drink offering) for the benefit of others. That was ok with him because there is great joy in seeing lives changed by the gospel. Paul asked the believers to see themselves in the equation and to do what? See verse 18.

8. Paul mentions two other men who sacrificed their lives for the work of the gospel, Timothy and Epaphroditus. What had happened to Epaphroditus that caused the church at Philippi concern?

9. Paul knew that the church seeing Epaphroditus with their own eyes would cause them to do what?

10. The church at Philippi had wanted to give to the special offering that Paul was collecting but they were not able to. So others made up for what was lacking. In this chapter we see the importance of attending and being involved in our local church. We encourage each other, rejoice with each other, we also do what for one another? See verse 4.
