Genesis Chapter 25

We are happy to learn that Abraham found another wife after his wife Sarah passed on. His second wife’s name was Keturah. The Bible later confirms that his second wife Keturah was a concubine like Hagar.

I Chronicles 1:32The sons of Keturah, Abraham’s concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

In total we find that Abraham had 8 sons. This was a good start to the various nations that came from Abraham. For example, we know that the son Midian became the people known as the Midianites. But Abraham sent all of his sons away from Isaac because he didn’t want them to be a hindrance to him. Isaac was the son promised to Abraham and Sarah, the son of God’s covenant.

Let's Reflect

1. What did Abraham do for his other sons before sending them off?

2. Isaac was to inherit all of the wealth of his father and all of the land. Abraham took care of the details of his inheritance before he passed away. How old was he when he died?

3. Besides Isaac, Ishmael, his half-brother was there to bury their father. Where did they bury him?

4. The sons of Ishmael and Isaach are named. How many sons did Ishmael have? How many sons did Isaach have?

5. According to verse 18 where did the family of Ishmael settle?

6. Isaac’s wife was also barren like Isaac’s mother. Isaac spent time in prayer on behalf of his wife and Rebekah conceived. Rebekah’s pregnancy was a difficult one. What was difficult about it?

7. We see that Rebekah was a woman of faith in God also. She asked God why her pregnancy was so hard, and God answered her. What did God tell her?

8. Her children grew up and we have the account of the first born selling his birth right to the second born of Isaac and Rebekah. Who was the second born child?
