I Chronicles Chapter 25

Please read:  I Chronicles 25

King David had spent many hours as a musician composing, playing and singing songs of praise to God.  He knew how important music was in worshipping the Father.  It only makes sense that he organized musicians to be continually offering music in the temple that was to be built by his son Solomon.  The pattern of organization that he used to organize the priests was the same pattern he used to organize those Levites who would be tasked with playing instruments and singing.

I find it very interesting that this chapter mentions that they were “trained in singing to the LORD.”  David wanted the musicians to give of their best to worship God and so that meant training.  That training would have included Biblical teaching to ensure the truths of God were not misconstrued in the writing of their songs.  And so, we read that there were teachers and pupils of the study of music, counted as those who were assigned to worship the LORD in songs.

Let's Reflect

1.  What instruments are mentioned as those used for worship?

2.  According to verse 3 what was the purpose of the songs that were written and sang?

3.  What was the name of the man who was blessed with 17 children and all of them were trained to serve as musicians?

4.  Verses 9-31 describes how the various families were organized to take turns serving in the temple with music.  How many rotations would there be in total?

5.  How did they decide who would serve first, second, third, and so on?

6.  In that first organization there were 12 in each rotation.  When you multiply 12 by the number of courses (or rotations) what is the total number of musicians?  See verse 7.

7.  Does the music that you listen to cause you to love your heavenly Father even more?
