Please read: I Chronicles 28 –
David had wanted to build a temple for the LORD, but God had told him that it would be his son Solomon who would build it. This meant that Solomon was the son that would be the next king of Israel. There was something God saw in the life of Solomon that pleased Him. Solomon like his father David wanted to please God.
I Chronicles 28:7 “I will establish his kingdom forever if he continues strong in keeping my commandments and my rules as he is today.”
The number of plans and details that David prepared for the building project are amazing. But we need to remember that when it comes from God, He provides the creativity needed to know exactly how to finish a seemingly impossible task. Another example in the Bible would be Noah. God supplied the details and the dimensions to Noah to know just how to build a great boat that would save the lives of his family, any other persons that might repent and want to believe the warnings of Noah, and the animals. It too was a big project, but God supplied the know-how.
Let's Reflect
1. David made it clear to Israel that his son Solomon would be the next king. How did he do that?
2. How did David describe the fact that God chose him to be king and now God chose Solomon? See verse 4,
3. When David told the leaders that it was God who chose Solomon, he mentioned that God had also promised something about his kingdom. What was the promise and how was that promise fulfilled?
4. Verse 9 begins the charge David gave to Solomon. This seems to be a more personal meeting between father and son. What did David tell his son about God and His relationship to men?
5. Solomon was going to be not only the king but a king of a large building project. David did all he could to set his son up for success. He literally gave him the architectural plans for the building. Included in the plans were the room where the Ark of the Covenant would rest. In this passage the Ark is called the Mercy Seat, which is very significant. Where would the Mercy Seat Room be in the temple?
6. Were you amazed at the detail David provided for his son, down to the exact weight of gold or silver that was to be used for furniture pieces? Where did all the fine details originate from according to verse 19?
7. What encouragement did David give to his son in the last few verses of this chapter?
