I Chronicles Chapter 29

Please read:  I Chronicles 29

The end of David’s story is perhaps the best part because we learn so much about the great leader that he was; and we can see that he truly wanted all of Israel to be what God wanted them to be, as well as his son Solomon.  David took opportunity to give praise, honor, and recognition to God before all the people of Israel.  He proclaimed that God had power and majesty above all people on the earth.  David was proclaiming exactly what God had wanted for His chosen people when they entered the promised land.  He wanted them to obey His voice and His commandments looking only to Him and He to be their God.  This is exactly what He wants for you and I today as well.

1 Chronicles 29:10-13 And David said: “Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule overall. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand, it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.

Let's Reflect

1.  In verse 29 we finally learn who has chronicled the life of David.  What three men wrote down the events of David’s life?

2.  According to verse 1, David reminded the people that the position of being king, the kingdom, and the palace were all for one purpose.  What was the purpose?

3.  David led by example.  He told the people all he had prepared and given to make the building of the temple possible.  He even mentioned all the personal contributions he had made to the project.  What were the personal contributions mentioned?

4.  David did not ask the people to give money to build the temple, but he did ask them to do what?

5.  The money began to pour into the collection because the leaders of Israel began to give out of the willingness of their hearts.  They wanted to be a part of the LORD’s work.  What was the mood of the people upon giving all these gifts to God?

6.  According to verse 12 and verse 16 where do all riches and honor come from?

7.  Verses 10-19 are David’s prayer of blessing to the LORD.  Who did he pray for at the end of his prayer?

8.  Verses 20-22 describe what we today might call a great revival.  The people’s hearts were filled with love toward God and wanting to serve only Him.  There is great joy when we really see the big picture and recognize God as being God over all of creation and over our very life.  Israel’s way of showing God that they were dedicating their lives to God was to offer what to Him?

9.  The chapter ends with the death of David and the beginning reign of his son Solomon.  It was just as David had wanted it to be for his son.  What does the Bible say about the beginning reign of Solomon?

10. How many years did David reign as king of Israel?
