The church at Thessalonica was going through a very trying time and so Paul had sent Timothy to be an encouragement to them to help build them up in the faith. He wanted to go himself but because of his imprisonment he wasn’t able to, so he did the next best thing, he sent Timothy to them.
Let's Reflect
1. How does Paul describe Timothy?
2. Paul was very concerned about the faith of the new believers in Thessalonica. What was his greatest concern for them?
3. What had Timothy reported back to Paul about the faith of the people?
4. The report that Timothy gave really encouraged Paul. It brought him comfort to know that those who had accepted Jesus as their Savior were continuing to grow in the faith despite the large band of opposition in that region. When we hold on to our faith even in difficult times, God is honored. There is a particular term that is used in verse 8 that depicts a person holding on to their faith at all times. What is it?
5. Paul did not rejoice over the people of Thessalonica because they were becoming wealthy or famous for some great endeavor, but what was it that made Paul rejoice over them?
6. Paul is going to keep on praying for them and ask God to take care of whatever areas of spiritual growth they might be lacking in. He also prayed for what to happen?
7. What main ingredient does Paul teach us that believers need that will cause growth in our walk with the Lord?
8. Until the day that we see Jesus we all need to “establish our hearts blameless in holiness.” The enemy would have us fail in our faith and to fall back into sinful patterns. But God wants us to separate ourselves from sin and from sinful practices and present our hearts to Him, separated to Him. How are you doing with your daily walk? Are you separating your heart to God?
